LIMA – The Van Wert Lady Cougars traveled to Lima to take on state-ranked Bath Wildkittens. At the end of the night, Bath won a hard fought 2-0 game. Van Wert could only muster a total of three hits on the evening, but stranded five base runners. The Lady Cougars Achilles heel was fielding miscues, as the local girls committed four errors. The setback drops the Lady Cougars record to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Western Buckeye League. Morgan Williams had the mound duties for the locals going the distance. She gave up the two unearned runs on six hits, walking three and striking out four. She hit one Bath batter. Bath scored one run in the second inning with a lead-off walk followed by an error and scoring on a fielders-choice. Their other run scored in the fourth inning which started with a lead-off single. Consecutive Lady Cougar errors allowed her to score. Those two runs would be enough for Bath pitcher Shelby Snyder as she shut the Van Wert offense down, allowing only three hits with two walks, while fanning 12 Cougar hitters. Kara Thomas had a single in the third which was the locals first hit of the game. Williams tried to help herself from the plate as she stroked a double in the fourth inning and then Madison Kohn ripped a single back up the middle in the seventh. The Lady Cougars are right back at it today as they travel to Paulding for a three-way doubleheader in which they will take on Antwerp first at approximately 12:15 p.m. After a brief intermission, they will play Paulding. |
