| The Van Wert Cougars played the Celina Bulldogs in Celina and suffered their third defeat in the Western Buckeye League. The Cougars were soundly beaten by a score of 6-0. With the loss, the locals overall record drops to 11-5 and 2-3 in league play. Celina's Tabby Knous hit a one out fly ball that carried out over the center-field fence for a solo homerun to put the home team up 1-0 after two innings of play. But the Bulldogs weren't finished as they dented the scoreboard again in the bottom half of the third. Allison Braun did most of the damage with a three-run homerun that put Celina up 5-0 before they added one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the final of 6-0. Alexa Jent had the only hit for the Cougars and Brittany Speelman drew a walk for Van Wert's only two base runners of the game. Morgan Williams stepped onto the mound for the loss and gave up the six runs, with five of them being earned runs. She also struck out five. Laura Homan pitched a complete game, striking out nine and allowing two hits. She also had three singles and a run scored. The Cougars will play again this Friday when the state-ranked Bulldogs of Defiance come to Jubilee Park here in Van Wert for a 5:00 p.m. start. |
